Common tasks that you may perform include:
- Applying paint, varnish, wallpaper and other finishes to protect, maintain and decorate surfaces of buildings and structures.
- Erecting scaffolding and ladders, and placing drop sheets to protect adjacent areas from paint splattering.
- Preparing surfaces by removing old paint and wallpaper, fixing woodwork, filling holes and cracks, and smoothing and sealing surfaces.
- Selecting and preparing paints to required colours by mixing portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying additives.
- Applying paints, varnishes and stains to surfaces using brushes, rollers and sprays.
- Hanging wallpaper, matching patterns and trimming edges.
- Cleaning equipment and work areas.
- May repair windows and replace glass in wooden and metal frames.
- May lay and repair wall and floor tiles.
- Minimum of 3 years’ working experience as a Painting Trades Worker, Building Painter or Industrial Painter
- Must have experience in surface preparation (gapping, filling, sanding, etc.)
- Must have experience in mixing paints to achieve desired color.
- Must be skilled in spray painting (using spray guns, brushers, rollers)
- Must be skilled in painting timber and door frames using acrylic paint and oil based gloss paint., including spray painting of house roofs.
- Good English communication skills
- Must be able to drive a 4-wheel vehicle
- Must be able to provide work references and salary evidence
- High school diploma and at least a vocational diploma, or short course certificate
- Minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience
