Common tasks that you may perform include:
- Inspect incoming fruit for quality issues, liaise with growers regarding substandard produce, and ensure all growers maintain up-to-date certifications and compliance documentation.
- Supervise washing, handling, and packing operations, ensuring hygiene standards are maintained and produce is processed without damage.
- Coordinate with Quality Control and Box Check teams to monitor and regulate fruit quality, adjusting sorting and machinery operations accordingly.
- Ensure all staff adhere to safety, hygiene, and conduct protocols, including regular cleaning of produce, equipment, and machinery in line with HACCP and Freshcare standards.
- Monitor and guide packers and sorters to correctly identify defects, maintain accurate weights, and pack produce according to quality standards without compromising fruit integrity.
- Manage production flow and staff allocation, ensuring machinery is not operating at speeds that may damage fruit and that workers are not placed under excessive pressure.
- Oversee labelling accuracy, order collation, and pallet tracking, keeping the Tally Clerk informed of any changes or issues affecting order fulfillment.
- Implement and maintain cleaning and chemical handling procedures, ensuring all chemicals are stored securely, used by trained staff, and compliant with safety regulations.
- Ensure machinery, surfaces, and cold rooms meet food safety standards, overseeing microbial, MRL (Maximum Residue Level), and heavy metal testing protocols.
- Monitor wastewater treatment and disposal practices in accordance with EPA guidelines, and remain familiar with emergency, hazard, and evacuation procedures.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Facility Supervisor in a fruit packing company
- Experience in fresh supply monitoring for local & export markets
- Proficient in required standards of hygiene are observed at storage, processing, and packing facilities and in transport vehicles
- Ensuring all staff follow the rules, correctly conduct themselves not to harm themselves or others, and hygiene policies are followed, including cleaning produce and machinery.
- Experience in regulating staff and machinery according to fruit quality by liaising with quality control officer and machine operator
- Order and review stock levels so as not to run out and report supply problems
- Assists the Facility Plant Manager in establishing and embedding a safe performance, accountability, and operational excellence culture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Vocational diploma, or short course certificate
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience
