Common tasks that you may perform include:
- Installing and repairing soft and resilient carpets and floor coverings.
- Measuring areas to be covered and consulting plans to estimate quantities of floor covering materials required.
- Preparing surfaces for covering and removing baseboard trims.
- Measuring, cutting and fixing underlay materials.
- Laying coverings, such as carpets, linoleum, parquetry blocks, cork tiles and other resilient flooring materials, over floors, matching patterns, cutting shapes around fixtures and trimming edges.
- Securing floor coverings and fitting edge trims in doorways.
- Sanding, staining and applying finishing coatings to timber floors.
- Minimum of 3 years' work experience as a Carpet Installer or Floor Finisher
- Must be skilled in installing carpets and flooring by gluing or stapling them to floors, stairs, or walls.
- Must be skilled in finishing edges with a wall trimmer and correcting imperfections.
- Must have a strong measuring and planning skills to develop layout plans and patterns for carpet installation..
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent physical ability to lift materials, use hand tools, and work in tight spaces.
- Good English communication skills to liaise with warehouse for stocking and to communicate with clients for accurate quotes and installation dates.
- Must be able to provide work references and salary evidence.
- High school diploma and at least a vocational diploma, or short course certificate
- Minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience
